** Initial Meeting date has been moved due to weather conditions the new meeting date is Feb 16 @ 7:30 pm
Hi my name is Doug Barger, I have lived here all my life. There has been an idea floated around the village for a while now about forming a kids club. Well, if we keep talking about it – it will never happen! So now is the time to make the decision to do this or not! I have put together some initial information based on some of my experiences working in youth groups and information gathered from other sources. In this webpage you will find all the information I currently have assembled. All the information I am providing is up for discussion and debate on February 9th at the clubhouse at 7:30 pm. Getting the children involved and enjoying their neighborhood can be a huge asset to our community. Using the facilities that we have here we can do so many cool things. A few of the larger activity ideas are listed below.
Camping – Camping is a wonderful activity for the youth, we possibly could camp in the Pines in the south park or at Fort Jefferson or at a few other local locations. The children will be close to home!
Fishing – This is obvious but doing this as an organized activity with some of our best fishermen giving out tips on fishing.
Dance Parties – Dancing parties specifically targeted to the older children, properly supervised, playing the music they want to hear!
Competitive Events – Competitive sporting events that will issue awards.
Nighttime Beach Party – Well, I don’t think I need to explain that one.
Video Game contests – Possibly people with “WII’s” could bring their consoles to a WII champion video game contest. This type of activity has huge popularity and it can be used to help bring the children together.
Ice Skating – After the ice has been tested to be safe of course. Build a bonfire on the peninsula on Lake Iroquois for roast hot dogs, add a few flood lights we could have a wonderful nighttime skating party.
There are many other smaller activities that can be done year round which can be discussed at the monthly meetings.
Wayne Lakes used to be filled with many events but things being as they are they have faded away over the years. Now is the time to make the fun we older residents remember return in force. Updated to meet what the youth of today like to do. We are only limited by the number of people willing to help with these events and our imaginations. I must tell you helping is more like fun and really does not resemble work at all. As a volunteer absorb the happiness that always follows these events and enjoy a vacation at home.

Wayne Lakes Kids Club Proposal
Overview:
This group will be made up of children ages 9 through 18 years of age. Its primary purpose is to promote community involvement and to nurture the ideas of respect and pride in their community. One of the primary goals for this group is to organize afternoon events open to all the children in the community. Similar to how the boosters club organizes events. This group will be responsible for one major event each year. Helping with village clean-up activates, and help repair vandalism not in an accusatory or negative contact way. It is important that the community service activities are not the main goal of this group but a side element that promotes community pride.
The boosters club will help and support this group where needed and will be an extension of the boosters club subject to its charter. This group will have their own adult volunteers to make sure the children stay on task and guide them in their activities. It is also important that no child should be excluded because of the ability to pay dues or other fees. Possibly a fund could be set up for children who fall into this category.
Adult Volunteers:
An adult volunteer can be any person over 18 years of age. The volunteer must not be convicted of sexual assault, drug, or any other abuse charges. The volunteer should have a positive attitude and enjoy working with children.
Adult volunteers should avoid being alone with a single child not in their own family.
Campouts or any other overnight activities; adult supervisors cannot sleep in the same tent/room as a minor unless the minor is part of their family or with expressed permission from the parent or garden of the non-related child. As an adult volunteer you have the responsibility to stop a child from performing a potentially dangerous activity. Also make sure to break up any fights or other derogatory activities.
Insurance and Liability.
As an extension of the Wayne Lakes Boosters club the insurance for the boosters club activates will also cover the activities of the kids club.
Members
Members can be any child living in Wayne Lakes between the ages of 9 and 18. A non-resident child can join if one parent lives within the village limits. The member will be required to come to the monthly meetings and to attend some of the events throughout the year. Membership cost is $10.00 a year and is non-refundable. Children must have parent/guardian approval before joining the club.
Meetings
Monthly organizational meetings will be held at a time and date to be determined. The pledge of allegiance will be said. The group will initially be lead by an adult supervisor but as the group develops and changes a child leader may be elected. The meeting will follow Parliamentary procedures with minutes kept. The primary function of each meeting is to determine the next’s months open activity. Other subjects and activates at the monthly meeting will be determined by the group.
Monthly Events:
A monthly event’s purpose is twofold; First it is a way to reach all the youth of the village in a positive way and to engage them in activities that will promote the main goals of community involvement and making youth feel accepted by the community. The second goal is to raise funds to support other youth group activities. The cost of the event will be minimal so that the cost will not prohibit any child from participating. Food or refreshments for the events should be donated to help defer costs and make it easy for children to participate. If a child comes from a needy family, all costs will be differed.
Major Event:
One major event will be conducted by the youth group in October. This event will be a fund raising event in the village. For this document we will call this event the “haunted woods” similar to other types of haunted houses in the area this event may include other groups or originations to help. Details about this event will be decided later and detailed in another document.
Funding:
Kids Club will have their own bank account and accounting. To begin with an adult supervisor will be responsible for tracking the funds and keeping accounting information. Later a responsible older member may be assigned this duty as the advisors see fit. The Wayne Lakes Boosters club may need to help to fill short falls upon approval from the Boosters club as to amount and purpose if needed.
